Production Update #8

Things have been pretty quiet here, but a lot has been going on!  Here is a long-overdue production update!

Free: A Delantare Story - Official Selection Paonia Film Festival 2016 First off, our short film Free: A Delantare Story has been accepted into the 2016 Paonia Film Festival!  It will be screening on April 29th, and we’ll find out if it wins anything during the award ceremony on April 30th!

As you may have already seen, we’ve received a few amazing pieces of art from our concept artist Bart Willard!  The first is a promotional piece featuring the three time periods of the story: Old West, modern day, and distant future.

The second piece is a concept gallery of a mysterious sword that plays a vital part of the story, linking our characters across time!

Tim NolteNext, Tim Nolte, who co-wrote the pilot script, has agreed to step in as co-showrunner for the series!  This was a natural step, as he has served as a sounding board and creative consultant since we began developing the series in earnest.

instagram41116And finally, during our conversations, Tim and I (Zack Lawrence) have also decided that with our budget and resources, the story will be better presented as a web series, rather than pursuing traditional TV avenues.  This will also allow us to maintain greater creative control in bringing the story to life.  And so, we’ve split the pilot script into 3 smaller episodes, and have begun working on the next set of scripts to complete Season 1!

It’s a slow process, but we’re steadily making progress toward production!  Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages to stay up to date on the latest!  We’d also appreciate any help you can give in our fundraising efforts!  The sooner we raise the funds we need, the sooner we can go into production!

Production Update #7

We reached over $1,000 in donations today!  As promised, we’re excited to announce the next member of the production team….

Concept artist Bart Willard!

Bart Willard - Delantare concept artistWith more than 20 years as a professional artist, Bart has worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, animator, art director, production designer, and even a prop builder.

A graduate of Huntington University, Bart began his career designed PowerPoint media presentations but continued to develop his skills as an artist and designer with a desire to one day work within the entertainment industries of theatre, film, and video games.  While working as a professional graphic designer, Bart added animation and 3D modeling to his skill set.  He now enjoys working as a concept artist, animator, and art director for various projects within video production, motion pictures, and game development.

We’ve already received some awesome designs from Bart, which really makes this project finally start to feel real. 🙂  There’s another member of the team we’re looking forward to announcing, but you’ll need to wait until we reach $2,000 in donations!  So if you’d like to help us reach our goal, head over to the Donate page and help us out!

Production Update #6

We wrapped production on our first Delantare short film, entitled Free, on January 16th!  Editing is now under way, and we’re hoping to have the film completed in time to submit to the Paonia Film Festival by February 5th.  It was a cold, grueling, yet very fun shoot.  We’ll be releasing the film online sometime in February as we gear up for our big fundraising push for the series pilot.

Until then, here are some behind the scenes and promo photos! Click or tap any photo to enlarge.

Production Update #5

As preproduction and fundraising continue for the pilot episode of the Delantare series, we’re also working on another project that’s part of the Delantare world!  We’ll be making a short film to act as a concept reel for the show, entitled Free.

On the run from a deadly tyrant, an escaped slave stumbles upon a half-dead traveler who may not make it without her help.

Filming for this five minute short will take place on January 16, 2016, and stars Paige Awtrey as an escaped slave named Zana.
